Goodspeed, America&#8217;s First Papyrologist<\/em>, a sketch of the young scholar&#8217;s trip to Europe and the Middle East that included a visit in early 1900 to Grenfell and Hunt&#8217;s excavation at Tebtunis and a visit to Oxford that summer to work on preparing the edition of some Tebtunis papyri that appeared in <em>P.Tebt<\/em>. I. This account is based on archival research exploiting correspondence by Goodspeed, Grenfell, and Hunt as well as other sources.
